Intern Position (School Sector) | Nemours | Newark, DE
Nemours Health and Prevention Services (NHPS) headquartered in Newark,
Delaware, works with families and communities to help children grow up
healthy, both physically and emotionally. It is a division of Nemours, a
non-profit organization dedicated to children's health and health care
that offers treatment services, research and training programs in
Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. Health and Prevention is
Nemours' newest division, created to expand its reach beyond clinical
care to consider the health of the whole child within his or her family
and community.
NHPS work currently focuses on two health topics: Healthy
Eating/Physical Activity (HEPA) and Emotional/Behavioral Health (EBH).
We work toward integrated policy, practice, and program change in four
sectors in the State of Delaware: child care, schools, primary health
care and communities. Online at http://www.GrowUpHealthy.org The Intern
position resides in the Center for Research and Evaluation (CER).
Availability; (12 months)
This particular position will work with the School Sector. Currently
NHPS is working to formalize the role of schools in promoting student
health. Congress passed Federal Public Law 108.265 Section 204 in June
2004 requiring schools participating in the National School
Lunch/Breakfast Program to develop a local wellness policy to be
implemented by the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. As a result
of this law, NHPS is working with all 19 districts in Delaware to assist
them in both strengthening and implementing their respective wellness
policies.
Although NHPS is working directly with districts rather than schools,
contact with the schools is essential in order to ensure a useful and
accurate evaluation. The selected individual will be responsible for
monitoring the implementation of the Wellness Policy for each district
to which he/she is assigned. As part of this responsibility, the
individual will be responsible for conducting interviews with both
district level and school level staff, assisting with observations when
necessary; assisting with the implementation of the statewide school
sector survey; participating in meetings; assisting with the writing and
editing of documents; and making presentations when necessary.
This particular position will work with the lead evaluator for the
School Sector in implementing the evaluation plan. The duties will
include, but are not limited to: data collection; analysis of data
collected using SPSS and Nvivo or other qualitative software package;
recording of activities performed by high impact, strategic, and
community partners and the delivery of 5-2-1-Almost None messaging
materials; attending social marketing meetings with internal and
external groups; writing and editing interim and final reports; and,
conducting presentations when necessary
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

action to insure that discrimination does not occur against an employee
or applicant on the basis of race, creed, color, age, sex, national
origin, marital status, sexual orientation, religious or political
affiliation, disability, or any other classification considered
