Intern (Conference on Childhood Obesity Prevention) | Nemours | Newark, DE
Nemours Health and Prevention Services (NHPS), based in Newark,
Delaware, works with families and communities to help children grow up
healthy. It is the newest division of Nemours, one of the nation's
largest pediatric health systems, operating the Alfred I. duPont
Hospital for Children and outpatient facilities throughout the Delaware
Valley and northern and central Florida. NHPS expands Nemours' reach
beyond clinical care to consider the health of the whole child within
his or her family and community. The goal is to impact long-term changes
in policies and practices that promote child health and to leverage
community strengths and resources to have the greatest impact on the
most children.
***The intern should be available part-time from January through August
2008 and full-time during the months of September and October 2008.***
This position will support the The third annual conference: 2008 Nemours
Conference on Childhood Obesity Prevention - Advocacy, Policy and
Progress, will be policy-centered sessions presented by national experts
who will showcase how Health Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA)
policies in the Child Care, Primary Care, School and Community Sectors
are having demonstrated success in impacting childhood obesity rates.
The conference's three overarching goals are designed to: 1) disseminate
information; 2) exchange ideas that work; and 3) increase the rate of
progress in achieving long-term policy and practice changes that promote
child health while leveraging community strengths and resources.
Opportunities for policy makers, advocates, government, and non-profit
decision makers to exchange strategies to engage community leaders and
affect policy changes at the local level will also be a key focus.
The intern will work closely with team leaders and conference
subcommittees in planning, coordinating and preparing all programmatic
aspects of 2008 Conference. Previous experience in planning conferences
and events is helpful. Ability to manage multiple tasks at once
required. Duties will include:
Intern Project Deliverables:
- Planning and organizing committee meetings and subcommittee
activities
- Assisting in the identification of speakers, and designing and
coordinating sessions
- Collecting, writing, and editing program descriptions and speaker
biographies
- Scheduling, planning, and facilitating conference calls with program
speakers and panelists in cooperation with team leaders
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Master's level preferred
